Marquis is a Nokota Horse. Nokota horses traditionally ranged in the Little Missouri Badlands of Southwest North Dakota, appearing in the late 19th century. The horses are believed to be descendents of the Sitting Bull ponies as well as horses which escaped or were released from the ranching industry. This one was created by DeeAnn made to be a wild Nokota Horse Stallion painted Grulla Overo. One of the most interesting and arresting characteristics of the Nokota are their color patterns. The two dominant coat colors are frame overo and roan, both of which are colors associated with Spanish and Indian breeding.
